Start Over

Once a project becomes an order, the process starts at the Engineering and Steel Detailing Department. The company counts with experienced detailers and a computerized detailing system joined together by a Novel Local Area Network (LAN) capable of producing shop drawings with the highest degree of accuracy and efficiency. Once a job has been detailed and revised, computer files are transferred via the LAN to the automated manufacturing equipment at the shop known as the Peddinghaus CNC equipment. With this CAD-CAM (Computer Aided Drafting-Computer Aided Manufacturing) arrangement, beams and columns that are programmed using the steel detailing software at the engineering department are instantly sent 500 feet away to the plant to be fabricated.

With this in-line production process, Structural Steel Works, Inc. fabricates over 200 tons of structural steel per week using only one eight-hour shift.

Using high quality materials shipped from the U.S., Europe and other world producers, Structural Steel Works, Inc. (SSW) converts raw steel into perfectly engineered and precisely fitted building superstructures. Beginning with plans made by structural engineers in our drafting department from architectural blueprints. Our manufacturing plant creates the beams, columns, steel joist, plates and other elements that form the backbone of huge buildings, such as the American Airlines terminal at Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport – one of the largest project of its kind in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

After the material has been completely fabricated, assembled and painted it is loaded on pre-planned sequence of trucks. This way when the material is received at the job site, installations is performed with maximum efficiency and following the priorities established by the client. Structural Steel Works, Inc. project management procedures include computerized project schedules, job site engineers, company owned motor cranes, experienced erection crews and others.

In addition to manufacturing the traditional steel construction members, our manufacturing facility also specializes in miscellaneous steel work like stairs, railings, steel joists, platforms, etc… Examples of this are the impressive ten flights fire escape steel stair tower installed at the Mercantil Plaza in Hato Rey and the pedestrian bridge spanning Roosevelt Ave and connecting the Puerto Rico Telephone Company Building.
